In 2010, when Iranian Parliament introduced the national directive of “knowledge enterprise
support,” many respected economists and business leaders expressed concern about the implementation process. Over the years, these concerns were validated, as genuine knowledge companies struggled to access the support they desperately needed to grow and thrive. Once again, Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman’s words resonated: “If you put the [federal] government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in five years there'd be a shortage of sand.”
A crucial but simple missing link was communication. Knowledge enterprises were unclear about the criteria necessary for government approval, while the government failed to communicate its methodology for evaluating these companies. Despite the substantial support available, enterprises found it challenging to benefit from the directive, caught in the confusion of an unclear process.
It became evident that our mission was to serve as a bridge between both parties. We needed to assist the government in identifying its target group while helping enterprises obtain the long-awaited support they had earned. This vision led us to establish Fanbonyan (فن بنیان), beginning with a small group of specialized consultants and evolving into an efficient and dedicated organization, providing the solution to this pressing issue.
What we do?
Knowledge enterprises rely heavily on science and technology and focus more on societal impact than on financial gains, unlike their tech company counterparts. While their commitment to improving humanity through scientific advancements is commendable, this approach alone may encounter financial difficulties in the long run, especially in a developing country like Iran. The Iranian government became aware of these challenges, but, as previously discussed, their proposed solutions did not yield the expected results.
This is where Fanbonyan comes in. We’re a private consulting service that assists knowledge-based companies in Iran. Fanbonyan assists these businesses in understanding product and service expectations and adapting their data to meet government evaluation requirements, ultimately securing essential certification for necessary support.
What are the areas of our expertise?
Dennis Gabor, the renowned engineer and father of holography, often discussed how technology should evolve with the aim of “repairing the evils and damages caused by the technology of yesterday.” With this goal in mind, many Iranian knowledge-based enterprises are focused not only on innovation and reverse engineering of in-demand products but also on finding solutions to preserve the environment and reduce the harmful effects of modern industrialization. Consequently, our areas of expertise have expanded significantly.
